Surprise someone special—or treat yourself—with this exceptional antique pendant steeped in history.
This exquisite Victorian Etruscan Revival pendant is crafted in solid 14 karat yellow gold with a rich 20 karat gold wash, professionally tested. At the center is a beautifully carved sard hardstone cameo depicting a classical female profile, framed by intricate beadwork, cannetille scrolls, and granulated details inspired by ancient Etruscan goldsmithing. The reverse features a glass keepsake compartment, perfect for a treasured photo, lock of hair, or other small memento.
This substantial pendant measures 58.62 millimeters (just under 2 5/16 inches) long, including the bail, by 28.58 millimeters (1 1/8 inches) wide, and weighs a hefty 15.46 grams. It is unmarked, but professionally tested positive as 14 karat gold with a 20 karat gold wash. The bail is currently an open hook and can be permanently closed by your jeweler if desired. Circa 1870–1900. Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear.
This remarkable piece comes from the estate of Rita Barg of New Bern. Rita Diane Barg was born in Brooklyn on April 5, 1930, to Freda (Bloom) and Irving Edward Blumberg. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and married Maurice Barg in 1955. After living in Scarsdale, New York and Brookfield, Connecticut, Rita and Maurice retired to New Bern in 2002. There, Rita became an avid antiques dealer, bridge player, and tennis enthusiast, selling antiques at shows, in shops, and online. Every item told a story, and she remained curious and open-minded throughout her life. Rita passed away on September 24, 2014, at the age of 84.
