Vintage Prasiolite Ring: 14K Rose Gold, 12 Carat Green Quartz, Size 7.25

$1,267.12

Surprise your favorite lady (or treat yourself) with this spectacular statement ring!

This exquisite vintage 14 karat solid rose gold ring is prong-set with one enormous round-cut prasiolite measuring approximately 15.7 millimeters in diameter and weighing an estimated 12 carats. The dramatic elevated setting and sculptural freeform mounting give this ring a bold mid-century modernist look, likely dating from the late 1960s to the 1970s. Hand-textured accents and sweeping organic lines create a distinctive artisan studio-jewelry aesthetic that beautifully showcases the luminous mint-green gemstone.

The ring features a tapered split-shoulder shank that flows into the sculptural mounting, adding to its substantial presence and handcrafted appearance. The ring is a size 7 1/4 and can be re-sized to fit by your local jeweler. It weighs 7.93 grams and is stamped 14K. Expected light scratches to the gold can be polished out; otherwise, excellent estate condition.

Prasiolite (also known as green quartz or vermarine) is a green variety of quartz. Since 1950, almost all natural prasiolite has come from a small Brazilian mine, though it has also been found in Lower Silesia in Poland and in the Thunder Bay area of Canada. Naturally occurring prasiolite is extremely rare; most prasiolite on the market today is created by heat treating amethyst, sometimes combined with irradiation. While most heated amethyst turns yellow or orange to produce citrine, certain material develops the soft green color associated with prasiolite.

Green quartz is sometimes incorrectly marketed as "green amethyst," though this terminology is not accepted by the Federal Trade Commission. Other names for prasiolite include vermarine, greened amethyst, and lime citrine. The word prasiolite derives from the Greek words meaning “leek-colored stone,” a reference to its delicate translucent green color.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the item I receive look exactly like the photographs in the listing?

You will receive exactly the item pictured, minus any display props, measuring tools (such as rulers and scales), measurement comparison items (such as coins), and anything explicitly excluded in the text. Photos are likely not actual size; please see item description for dimensions. If there is a defect not discernible in the pictures, it will be included in the text. If there is a concern or doubt, please ask prior to purchase. Remember that color is a very tricky thing to transmit electronically. There are many variables, including lighting, background, physical filters, digital filters, the capabilities of the monitor on which the image is displayed, and the color perception of the viewer.

Where do you find your items?

Can you send me a photo of an item on a live model?

Generally, no. I'm a one-woman operation and I don't have any live models available. I also offer returns, so that if your item is not exactly what you want, you are welcome to return it for a refund.

I offer layaway for items over $300. You may make up to 3 monthly payments for a handling fee of $5. A 10% cancellation fee will be charged if you cancel the order. No discounts apply.
