From the estate of Keith and Caroline Tucker Gray of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Barry Keith Gray was born in Lexington, Kentucky on July 15, 1935, the son of the late William Ewart and Amelia Lee Gray.

Caroline Tucker Gray was born on January 17, 1937 in Cheraw, SC, the daughter of the late Paul L. and Emma Baker Tucker.

Barry's family moved to the Charlotte area in the early 1940's, where he grew up in the Elizabeth neighborhood. He attended Alexander Graham Junior High School, graduated from Myers Park High School in 1954, and attended Presbyterian College, graduating in 1960.

Caroline was a 1959 graduate of Queens University in Charlotte, NC with a BA in History and a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She married Keith Gray in 1959; they were married for 57 years.

After working for various energy companies in Atlanta and New Orleans, Keith ended up back in Charlotte to raise his family in 1964, and spent the rest of his career working for Kaiser Aluminum. He enjoyed going to estate sales and antique shows to see what he could find; he loved the thrill of the hunt. With his wife Caroline, he was a Mint Museum Dwelle Society Charter Member.

Caroline wore many different hats during her lifetime. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, very active in the garden club in her earlier years, an antique dealer, and an active member at her church, St. Martin's Episcopal, teaching Sunday school for children, and a member of the Altar Guild for many years. But it was her love of history and the arts that led her to be one of the most well respected and best known Personal Property Appraisers in the Charlotte area for decades. She was actually the first certified personal property appraiser in Charlotte. She ran her business called The Thistle, with great pride and integrity. Caroline was a past Chairman of the Ceramic Circle of Charlotte in 1991-1992. She served as President of the N.C. Association of Dealers in Antiques in 1993. She was a member of the International Society of Appraisers from 1983-2014, taking additional advanced courses at Indiana University and the University of Maryland to hone her craft and to be up to date on the newest information in her field. In 2000 she was the President of the Carolina's Chapter of the International Society of Appraisers. Caroline was an active member of the Mint Museum since 1971. She previously served as President of the Delhom Service League and the Docents, as well as being on the Mint Museum Board of Trustees and the Acquisitions Board. Caroline was a member of the Friends of the Mint, Mint Auxiliary, and the Antiques Study Group. She and her husband Keith were charter members of the Mint Museum Dwelle Society. Caroline was also asked to be an internet associate for Sotheby's. It was Caroline and her friend Betty Holland's vision in 2005 which brought about the creation of the successful and popular Potter's Market Invitational held at the Mint Museum Randolph, which is now in its 12th year. Both were named honorary chairs for the PMI 2015 show. Caroline was a lecturer on antique subjects for antique shows, garden clubs, and study groups. Over the years she helped people uncover the true value of their treasures. She also helped many Charlotteans decorate their homes through the various Estate Sales she ran since the 1980's with the help of her best friends, Caroline Reid and Frankie Hinshaw.

Caroline passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gail C. Tucker and her granddaughter, Lindsey Elizabeth Smith. She was survived by her husband, Keith Gray; sons, Paul Keith Gray and William David Gray (Jan); daughter, Deborah Gray Smith (Mark); and four grandchildren, Chelsea Caroline Smith, Sean Gray Smith, Chad William Gray and Kristen Elizabeth Gray.

Keith Gray passed away on December 1, 2016.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the item I receive look exactly like the photographs in the listing?

You will receive exactly the item pictured, minus any display props, measuring tools (such as rulers and scales), measurement comparison items (such as coins), and anything explicitly excluded in the text. Photos are likely not actual size; please see item description for dimensions. If there is a defect not discernible in the pictures, it will be included in the text. If there is a concern or doubt, please ask prior to purchase. Remember that color is a very tricky thing to transmit electronically. There are many variables, including lighting, background, physical filters, digital filters, the capabilities of the monitor on which the image is displayed, and the color perception of the viewer.

Where do you find your items?

We purchase our items primarily at auctions and estate sales.

How do you know that your items are authentic?

We purchase from reputable auction houses and dealers, and we test all gems and precious metals. While we are not experts, we try to list each item in as much detail as possible. We cannot describe every tiny nuance; therefore, please use the zoom feature and consider each picture carefully.

All of our jewelry items arrive in a gift box. If you would like a more impressive gift box, we have some available for purchase. If you would like non-jewelry items gift-wrapped, you can purchase gift-wrapping at checkout.

How long will it take for my item to arrive?

I ship all items the next business day after I receive them. First Class mail generally takes 3-5 business days in the U.S. Priority Mail takes 1-3 days in the U.S. However, please note that it took the US Postal Service 21 days to deliver one First Class package to California. Shipping to other countries can take 2-6 weeks via First Class International. If you need something for a specific date, consider using Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express.

Can you send me a photo of an item on a live model?

Generally, no. I'm a one-woman operation and I don't have any live models available. I take great effort to photograph items on measuring devices such as ring mandrels, rulers in millimeters and inches, and scales. I also offer returns, so that if your item is not exactly what you want, you are welcome to return it for a refund.

Do you offer layaway?

I offer layaway for items over $300. You may make up to 3 monthly payments for a handling fee of $5. A 10% cancellation fee will be charged if you cancel the order. No discounts apply.
